Before you arrive...

  • Review the booklet Connect Ohio, sent to you from the Housing Office, about what to bring and what not to bring (page 30 of booklet).
  • Consult with your new roommate to avoid duplication, particularly of large/heavy items.
  • Order a loft and/or a carpet from the Residents' Action Council (see mailer that was sent to your home); if you're bringing your own loft check with the Housing Office website to make sure a loft will fit in your new room.
  • Successfully complete "AlcoholEDU for College," the online alcohol education course.
  • Review the online Student Handbook and, particularly, read "Student Code of Conduct" and "Academic Misconduct" at the Judiciaries website.

Residence hall move in...

Residence halls will officially open for first year students on Thursday, September 4, at 12 noon.

New first-year students who are living on campus should move in between Thursday, September 4 at noon and Saturday, Sept. 6, by 9:30 am. Although residence halls will be open for move in until 4:00 pm on Saturday, it is important that first year students complete their move in by 9:30 Saturday morning so they can attend their required College Orientations which begin Saturday morning at 10:00.

Beginning times for move in each day are:

  • Thursday, September 4, at noon
  • Friday, September 5, at 9 am
  • Saturday, September 6, at 9 am

Residence halls will officially open for all upperclass students on Saturday, September 6 at 9 am.

Housing will coordinate move in helpers for those individuals who have disabilities or require special assistance.  Assistance requests must be made prior to arrival by calling the housing office 740-593-4090 OR by emailing housing@ohio.edu.

First-year students should plan to arrive in Athens no later than 4 pm on Saturday, September 6. All first-year students living on campus will then attend a Residence Hall Welcome at 4:00 pm.

For general questions or directions on campus, OHIO staff (in bright t-shirts) will be located on each of the greens. There will also be complimentary cold beverages.

Moving in...Each car arriving will be allowed to park adjacent to the residence hall for thirty minutes to unload. Move car away from the 30 minute parking area as directed by campus police. Officers will direct you to long-term parking. There will be move-in helpers at most residence halls to assist.

The check-in procedure for the residence halls is as follows:

  • Park your car as directed by campus police
  • Get the room key from staff office (in the main lobby of the residence hall). If you will be living on New South Green, click here to see where you will check in. If you will be living in Bromley Hall, click here to see when you will check in.
  • Fill out and sign the room condition report form
  • Move belongings into room
  • Move car away from the 30 minute parking area as directed by campus police.
  • Return to room to unpack, arrange, decorate, etc.

What to do after you move-in...

A mock dormAll new first-year students are expected to participate in the orientation activities that are part of Welcome Week Orientation. If you attended Precollege in the summer, you received a brochure that details all of these activities. If you did not attend Precollege in the summer, there will be a calendar of these events available in your residence hall. The events highlighted in color are those that are required. The first orientation activity for resident students is the "Residence Hall Welcome" at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Your RA will inform you of the location.

If you are living on-campus, your RA will give you information on where to meet in order to go as a group to the "Welcome Week Orientation Events."

If you will be attending Precollege on Friday, September 5, you should check in at 8:00 am in Bentley Hall.

If you will be living off-campus, you should participate in all activities of Welcome Week Orientation Events except "Residence Hall Welcome" on Saturday, September 6 and "Community Connections" on Sunday, September 7.
