Missed Appointment Policy Notice

Please review this policy carefully, as it will ensure your successful completion of BASICS.

How long does it take to complete BASICS?

The BASICS program consists of two (2) individual counseling sessions. Session one consists of an hour with your BASICS Counselor, plus an additional 30 – 45 minutes completing assessment instruments. Consider the first session a two-hour appointment in your schedule that day.

Two weeks later, session two is a one-hour appointment with your BASICS Counselor, plus several minutes afterward completing a satisfaction survey and a post-test. To complete the program, you must attend both sessions within two weeks’ time.

What if I miss an appointment due to illness or an emergency?

We hope you won't! But if so, you will need to provide specific documentation of the event. During registration, you will review and sign our Missed Appointment Policy form, which outlines a few circumstances in which it is acceptable to miss a BASICS appointment. BASICS Supervisors, not BASICS Counselors, will determine the acceptability of cancellations on a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately, due to high demand, you may have to repeat the program from the start, perhaps with a new counselor.

What if I miss an appointment for reasons that are not approved?

During your first attempt to complete BASICS, you will need to pay a $100 charge in order to reschedule. This will be billed to your student account, and you will need to clear the charge in order to register for classes the following quarter. Again, because of demand, many students will have to repeat the program from the start, and may be assigned a new counselor.

IF YOU MISS AN APPOINTMENT, GO TO BASICS REGISTRATION

What if I miss an appointment again, after rescheduling?

We will notify your referral source that you have failed to complete the program despite two attempts. If you are referred by the OU Judiciaries, you will be charged with violating your probation. The sanctions for this violation can include fines, probation extension, suspension, and expulsion.

If you are referred by an attorney, an officer of the court or another such party, we will notify them of your failure to complete the program. You will not be permitted to register for BASICS a third time, and may need to pursue alternative methods of fulfilling your legal obligation.
