The eligible population for each Cutler Scholars Award is determined by the benefactor who is establishing and funding the award. The benefactor can designate one of the following:
- a geographic area, such as a county or a single high school;
- an academic unit of Ohio University, such as the College of Business, the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, or the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism; or
- a group with an identifiable common trait, e.g., children of employees of a corporation
NOTE: The frequency of awards is subject to change depending on the availability of funding. Geographically-based ScholarshipsThe nomination procedures for all of the geographically-based Cutler Scholar awards are identical. To be considered, a student must be in his/her junior year and must be nominated by one of the eligible schools listed in the descriptions below (students cannot apply independently for the awards). The number of students to be nominated by each school varies depending on whether the award covers a single high school or multiple high schools. An Area Selection Committee comprised of alumni and friends of Ohio University will review the nominations in September and October and will select two finalists for each award. These finalists will be interviewed on the Athens campus by the Cutler Scholar Selection Committee and one finalist will be selected to receive each award. Nomination packets are typically mailed out to eligible high schools by April 1. The deadline for submission is June 1. Finalists are interviewed in October and November and awards are presented by November 30.
