Russ College Alumni Pioneers

Russ College alumni are leaders in business, aviation, and various engineering disciplines. Throughout history, our graduates have changed the way we live.

  • James Cole (BSEE '13), "father of the vacuum cleaner," inventor of the fan-cooled motor still used in today's vaccum cleaners

  • C. Paul Stocker (BSEE '26, HON '74), inventor of the mini sub-cycle ringer used to make traditional telephones ring

  • Fritz J. Russ (BSEE '42, HON '75), leader of the post war team that developed instrumentation and procedures to measure the effects of aerial nuclear bursts at Bikini atoll on nearby ships

  • Cruse Moss (BSIE '48, HON '85), original designer of the Jeep Waggoneer

  • Richard McFarland (BS '50, EMER '89), founder of the Ohio University Avionics Engineering Center , the only facility of its kind in the U.S.

  • John Raiser (BSAE '55), inventor of the 100-year, no-maintenance concrete roof

  • Craig Love (BSME '71), executive engineer of Chrysler Corporation's 1997 Plymouth Prowler Roadster

  • Connie Tobias (AAS '77, BGS '78), one of the first female airline pilots to captain for a major airline
