Biomechanics is a marriage of biological sciences and mechanical engineering approaches to understanding human physiology and developing therapeutic mechanical devices and diagnostic tools. Through the application of the laws of mechanics, virtual human musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology can be created and studied and prosthetic devices (e.g., artificial joints) designed.
