|  | Answers What is a Bursar student account? Each student that attends Ohio University, including the Regional Campuses, will have a financial account with the Office of the Bursar. This student account will include charges/payments for tuition and fee charges, room and board charges, parking violations, student insurance fee, special course fees, and Hudson Health Center fees. All of the charges will be billed using our eBill process. Back to questions What is eBilling? eBilling is a convenient and reliable alternative to paper bills. You will be sent an email notification to your Ohio University Oak email account when an eBill is available for viewing. You also have the ability to give access to authorized users to view your eBills. Each person with access to the eBill can receive an email notification when a new eBill is generated if their email address is provided. There are several reasons why eBill is the official billing method at Ohio University. The primary reason is to provide faster and easier service to our students and their parents or guardians. The vast majority of students and parents are familiar and comfortable with the web culture. It has become commonplace to perform many daily transactions and communications via email and the Internet. Many universities and institutions around the country are using electronic billing as their primary method of billing. In addition to providing more efficient service, electronic billing also results in time and monetary savings to both the student and the institution. Another reason is that many other applications and processes at Ohio University are paperless or electronic, including applying for admission, applying for and accepting financial aid, receiving student class schedules and grades, and processing student account refunds via direct deposit. eBill continues this mission. All enrolled students will receive an eBill. If you want a paper copy of your bill, you can log into your eAccount to print a copy of your eBill. Students can use any of the computer labs on the Athens and regional campuses to print an eBill. Back to questions How do I set up an authorized user? How can my parents view my eBill? A person other than the student may have the ability to view the eBill as an authorized user. Student’s must first sign into the eAccount and setup their authorized user in the system. A login name and password, assigned by the student, is used to securely view the eBill. The authorized user can also have an email address added to their profile so that an email notification will be sent when a new eBill is generated. The student must give the login name and password to the authorized user. Students have the ability to cancel authorized user access at any time by signing into their eAccount and deactivating the authorized user’s login ID. You can view your Current Account Statement (most up-to-date information) or view your eAccount (generated during the last billing cycle) online. Email notifications will be sent to the student (via Oak email) and authorized users when an eBill is available for viewing. Back to questions How do I log into my eAccount? Students will receive an email in their Oak email account when a new eBill is available for viewing. This email will have a link to the Ohio University Office of the Bursar website where their Oak ID and password will be used for authentication. Authorized users will link directly to the eBill site to login and view the eBill. Make sure that your computer does not have a Pop-Up Blocker that will block the access to your eBill. What is the difference between my eBill and my Current Account Statement? The eBill is a web-based presentation of your student account. It represents a snapshot in time of your student account. It will show the same information that would have been on a paper bill. If any new transactions occur, these transactions will show on the next eBill. The Current Account Statement provides access to your most up-to-date account activity as of the date and time of your request. Back to questions What is the General Fee? The State of Ohio has established a fee structure for higher education to follow. It has established instructional fees, general fees, and non-resident surcharges. The general fee was historically called the student services fee and it continues to be used to recover the cost of providing student services at Ohio University. These expenditures include, but are not limited to: Intercollegiate Athletics and the Marching 110 Student Affairs, including Health Services, and student union expenditures Student Government, OU Post, student activities, and student organizations Career Services and Academic Advancement Center Campus Recreation, including debt service for the Ping Center Campus Safety WOUB Student retention initiatives Environmental Health and Safety Kennedy Museum, Kennedy Lecture Series, Public Occasions Office, and other student cultural programs. Bus and Shuttle Systems As in any jointly funded activity, the benefits that individual students receive from the general fee (usage) will vary from quarter to quarter and also from student to student. The University periodically reviews these expenditures and has determined that the overall level of these expenditures to be generally consistent with the general fee revenues received from students. You can view a Current Account Statement (most up-to-date information) or view your eAccount (generated during the last billing cycle) online. What happens if I do not pay on time? Students that do not pay the first eBill of a quarter will be charged a $100.00 late payment fee. See the Billing Schedule for exact due dates for each quarter. Students enrolled in the Monthly Payment Plan are subject to a $30.00 late fee for each late payment. Back to questions What is the late payment fee on my account? A late payment fee is assessed if you did not pay the first eBill of a quarter by the due date. See Billing Schedule for eBill notifications and due dates. Late fees are assessed one time a quarter for those students paying quarterly and assessed monthly for those students on the Monthly Payment Plan. Back to questions What forms of payment are accepted? Ohio University accepts cash, personal check, money order, traveler's checks, or eCheck by logging into the student eAccount, and credit card payments on the web using (Mastercard, Discover, American Express). There is no fee to make payment using eCheck. Credit card payments using will have a service charge assessed based on the transaction amount. Regional Campus Service Centers accept cash (limited to $50), personal check, money order, traveler's checks and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Discover). Regional Campuses will only accept credit card payments for students attending their regional campus. Back to questions What is eCheck? Ohio University allows students and authorized users to make payment with eCheck by accessing their eAccount. There is no service charge for making a payment with eCheck. Payment with eCheck will create an ACH transactions to your checking or savings account. Back to questions Do you accept credit cards? Credit card payments can be made using . A processing fee of 2.9% is added to the total payment. MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted. VISA is NOT accepted. Back to questions Are tuition and fee waivers reflected on the bill? Tuition and fee waivers should be reflected on your bill once you are registered for classes. If your waiver is not showing, you will need to contact the office from which you are receiving the waiver. Back to questions If my bill shows a zero (0) amount due, do I need to do anything? You do not need to do anything if your bill shows a zero balance. If you are asked an insurance or student legal service question on the return stub of the eBill, that portion must be returned if you wish to waive the insurance or legal service fees. You can also waive the insurance or legal service fees by accessing the Current Account Statement or eAccount. Back to questions What is a Financial Hold? A financial hold will be placed on your university records if you have an unpaid balance on your student account. Back to questions Does the University offer any type of payment plan? Yes, Ohio University offers a Monthly Payment Plan that allows the student or parent to make three monthly installments each quarter (fall, winter, spring) and two installments for the summer quarter. Back to questions Do I need to sign up for Monthly Payment Plan and pay the $75.00 enrollment fee each year? Yes, the Monthly Payment Plan is set up for only one academic year at a time. Back to questions Does the $75.00 Monthly Payment Plan application fee go towards my charges? No, the $75.00 fee is for enrollment in the plan and is not refundable. Back to questions Why is my Monthly Payment Plan eBill this month higher/lower than last month? Activity on the student account may affect the amount billed from month to month. Activity such as: adding or dropping credit hours, parking violations, Hudson Health Center charges, special course fees, or a change in your financial aid. Back to questions When will refunds be issued? Refunds will be issued beginning the first day of each quarter. The Office of the Bursar processes refunds daily for students with direct deposit. Check refunds are issued and mailed once a week. Back to questions How will my refund be issued? Refunds are either issued as checks or as direct deposits to a student’s checking or savings account. You should provide the Office of the Bursar a special refund mailing address. This can be done by emailing bursar@ohio.edu or by calling 740.593.4130.
