The Graduate College at Ohio University
Graduate Council Policy on Minimum Credit Hour Registration for Graduate Students on Stipend

Purpose and Rationale
To establish a university-wide minimum credit hour requirement for all graduate students receiving university stipends. This policy takes into account the competing demands of the work-load requirements for students on stipends and the desire to have students complete their programs expeditiously.

Policy
All graduate students receiving a full graduate stipend must register for at least 12 graduate credit hours per quarter. Under unusual circumstances, some limited exceptions to the minimum enrollment level may be granted. Any requests for exceptions should be sent with the department/school and college approval to the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies for approval. Departments/schools and/or colleges may require more than 12 hours for students on a stipend. Students who are on fellowships, partial stipends, or tuition scholarships only will continue to have minimum enrollment levels of 15 graduate credit hours per quarter.
