Child Development Center reopens after gas leak Jul 16, 2008
The Ohio University Child Development Center on The Ridges will be open regular hours Thursday after closing this morning because of a small leak at an outdoor gas meter.
The university's Environmental Health and Safety Department detected the leak about 10 a.m. Children and staff were immediately evacuated, and parents were called to pick up their children.
Director of Environmental Health and Safety Joe Adams said center staff called EHS Tuesday to report an odor in the building. While EHS staff members found no detectable level of gas inside, they revisited the center this morning and found a small leak near the outdoor meter.
A Columbia Gas of Ohio crew was called and had the leak repaired by 3:15 p.m.
