The Office of Information Technology will perform emergency maintenance on a critical system beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, July 19. The work is needed to repair damage resulting from last month's power outage in the university's data center.
As part of this work, there will be a 30-minute outage, starting about 7:20 a.m., for the Blackboard 6 online course system.
Last month's outage exposed the sensitive equipment to high temperatures. As a result, there is a small chance that the service outage could have a longer duration and a broader impact. Both versions of Blackboard, eDirectory/LDAP, Oak account changes and any Web pages using Shibboleth authentication could be affected.
OIT consulted with Academic Technology in selecting the Saturday morning time slot in an effort to minimize the impact on Blackboard users. However, a small chance remains that an equipment failure before the weekend would require this work immediately and with little warning.
