Once a year, the world comes to Court Street.
The International Street Fair, the culmination of International Week events at Ohio University, will again transform the heart of Athens into a multicultural bazaar featuring the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of cultures from around the world. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in uptown Athens.
Members of the community and visitors are invited to experience traditional music performances, browse and buy handmade crafts and sample the wide array of food representative of the university's diverse international community.
Approximately 40 student and community groups will participate in this year's street fair, by far the largest number in several years, said Amanda Yusko, international student adviser in International Student and Faculty Services, the university office that oversees the organization of International Week activities.
Student groups such as the Japanese Student Association and the Korean Student Association will participate, and the food and crafts these organizations sell will contribute to fundraising for the groups.
A parade of international flags will kick off the event, and other entertainment acts are scheduled throughout the day.
Outlook's coverage of last year's street fair offers a glimpse of the fun that lies ahead.
