CORE responds to accidental data incident [ohiocore.org]
The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education has identified, sent information to and developed resources for 492 individuals whose personal data was unintentionally made accessible on the CORE Web site. CORE is a medical education consortium that comprises hospitals, clinical training sites and medical schools, including the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Options expand for aspiring civil engineers
A partnership that enhances Ohioans' graduate education options in civil engineering will bring a new doctoral program to Ohio University's Russ College of Engineering and Technology and expanded course offerings and research opportunities to Case Western Reserve University's Case School of Engineering.
 
City moves ahead on intersection project
Earlier this week, Athens City Council took a major step to improve the dangerous Richland Avenue and Ohio 682 intersection. In a unanimous vote, council appropriated $425,000 to cover partial design and engineering services for a $6.2 million project to construct a roundabout at the intersection and make related improvements.

Ernest Allberry, 50, a senior majoring in integrated math in Ohio University's College of Education, died June 28 after a brief illness.

Ohio extends Solich's contract through 2013 [ohiobobcats.com]
Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus announced Friday that head football coach Frank Solich's contract has been extended through the 2013 season. Solich enters the 2008 campaign 18th nationally in winning percentage (.675) among active Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches with at least five years of experience.

Precollege streamlines orientation process
Thousands of incoming students will visit campus in the coming weeks for the Precollege orientation program, which begins a week from today and incorporates new ways of introducing first-year and transfer students to the Ohio University community.
 
Ohio tabs Hermanek as head softball coach [ohiobobcats.com]
Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus announced Thursday afternoon that Jodi Hermanek has been hired as the Bobcats' head softball coach. Hermanek comes to Ohio following four successful seasons as head coach of Southern Utah University's softball program.

Biancamano to serve as university's general counsel
Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis and interim Ohio Attorney General Nancy Rogers have appointed John J. Biancamano as general counsel at Ohio University and assistant attorney general with the state, effective Aug. 18.

Design in Asia workshop provides intercultural design experiences [Communication]
Seventeen students and four faculty members from Beijing's Institute of Graphic Communication joined eight Ohio University students for a workshop on the Athens campus in late June and early July to explore cultural identities in design. The workshop was part of the Design in Asia study abroad program.

Ovington named head women's golf coach [ohiobobcats.com]
A veteran of the college coaching ranks and an active PGA member, Kelly Ovington was named head women's golf coach at Ohio University on Thursday. Bob Cooley will continue in his role as director of golf.
 
State increases college access for veterans
U.S. military veterans, their spouses and dependents now can attend Ohio University or any other Ohio public university at in-state tuition rates under the new Ohio GI Promise.
