Residence Hall Security
May 8, 2007
Dear Residence Hall Students,
Because residence hall safety and security is an extremely high priority at Ohio University, I have convened a task force of students and staff to review residence hall safety and security issues, including locking residence hall exterior doors 24 hours a day.
While the task force studies this issue, I have asked Assistant Vice President and Director of Residence Life Judy Piercy to work with members of the Residence Life staff to lock all residence hall exterior doors 24 hours a day beginning Wednesday, May 9 at 10:00 pm as I await recommendations from the task force.
As we prepare for this change, I urge you to remember that it is everyone’s responsibility not to allow non-residents to enter our residence halls unless they are accompanied by a resident of that hall. Residence hall safety is a community responsibility! I ask you to join with me and staff in the Department of Residence Life in keeping our residence hall communities safe.
Sincerely,
Kent J. Smith, Jr., Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
