CatMail conversion complete, Exchange coming soon
3500 remaining undergraduate and alumni accounts converted automatically to new system

The university's move to the Microsoft-hosted CatMail for undergraduates and alumni now is complete.  On October 12, 2009 OIT staff began the automatic process to convert the approximately 3,500 remaining undergraduate and alumni Oak accounts to the new system. 

Feedback on the new system has been largely positive, with users citing CatMail's modern web interface, increased inbox capacity and powerful search capabilities as top features.

Undergraduates and alumni will be able to use Webmail or Mulberry to access old messages on Oak through April 2010.

Exchange coming for graduate students, faculty and staff

Graduate students, faculty and staff will remain on Oak for the time being while OIT configures and tests a new, locally hosted Microsoft Exchange environment.  The new environment will support a wide range of e-mail clients, but the preferred versions will be Outlook for PC and Entourage or Mac Mail for Mac users.

"Exchange is the world's market leading e-mail system," says Chief Information Officer Brice Bible.  "I think people will be pleased with the features it has to offer."  

Along with desktop, web and PDA access to e-mail, Exchange also includes an integrated calendar that will replace Oracle Calendar.  Dates still are being finalized, but Bible expects the conversion to be completed before the end of the academic year.
